Lampshade question

I have a very plain white lampshade that  I would like to paint.  Does anyone know if there are types of paint I should or shouldn't use?

The lamp itself is one of those generic ginger jar shaped ones, also white, and I am going to spray it and a standing lamp in matching aged bronze paint.

By any other name

So - new member here - hello. :)

As my family and I are adding a new, furry member to our number, I'm finding myself at a loss to come up with a suitably steamy name for the new pup!

Male, Australian Shepherd, Red Merle, with at least one blue eye.

Do any of you lovely people have suggestions for a moniker for this little one?

Thank you!

A Word About Sales Posts

I really want this community to be about discussion and sharing ideas, photos, and what not. As such, sales posts don't particularly fit into this community so I'm going to ask that they not be posted here. There are many other communities which are better suited for such posts.

However, if you make or sell things specifically for the Steampunk lifestyle (i.e. homewares, luggage, modded apliances, etc. and want to show off what you can do, by all means make a post about it. But please put it in the format of look what I've made, by the way here's the address for my website.

I'm really not adverse to ads, I just don't want the community to become just about sales.

Costume? What costume?

These are my clothes!!! One advantage of being best known in your community as an artist is that people expect you to be at least a bit eccentric. An acquaintance once pointed at my tutu-skirt and laughed and said, "yeah, we had those lace curtains too!" :-)

Introductions All Around

I'd like to welcome the new members and ask for a bit of an introduction. I'm really interested in what your guys' initial thoughts on living a Steampunk life are. For example do you draw the line at dressing Steampunk everyday, a few times a week? Or do you take great care to ensure that every aspect of your life meshes with the Steampunk ideal? Somewhere in between?

Welcome!

Welcome to the living_steam community where we make Steampunk into a way of life.

There have been recent murmurings in the community at large calling more or less for Steampunk to be less about dressing up for conventions and more about lifestyle integration. Without going into too much detail (yet. There will be a post later all about clothes vs. costume) I'll say that I agree wholeheartedly.

I formed this community as a response to things that I saw on the Steamfashion community. Not that I have anything against Steamfashion but I saw so many people posting queries about what they should wear to a convention with no mention of anything outside of a costuming context. I thought to myself 'Steampunk should be more than just dressing up for a weekend'. It could(should) be something that can touch all aspects of a person's life.

When beauty meets practicality the possibilities are endless.
